The incident occurred near Hartali Chowk on Bailey Road when security officials tried to stop the protestors from marching towards the Chief Minister's residence. When the police tried to check their movement, they began pelting them with bricks, stones, and other objects leading to some injuries among the policemen.
After repeated attempts to control the crowd failed, police jumped into action and rained batons on the rally-goers.
"We are not getting financial assistance in proportion to our population in the state. Until we are included in the SC/ST category, we do not expect the government to help us. Five months ago, we had met with a government representative who had assured us that we will be included in the SC/ST category within a reasonable time but so far nothing has been done in this regard," said a rally participant.
