Patna: Police in Patna have reasons to believe that the SUV that crossed the median and then slammed into the rails of Gandhi Setu in Patna to plunge into the raging Ganges early Tuesday morning was not an accident but a case of suicide involving a 14-year old boy.
Rajendra Kumar Bheel, City Superintendent of Police (East), at a press conference on Wednesday said that based on the information gathered so far, that included a surveillance video footage captured from the Patna side of the bridge, it appeared that 14-year-old Adarsh Singh, the son of Vipin Kumar Singh of P C Colony in Kankarbagh, took his father's Mahindra Scorpio early Tuesday morning and drove to the Ganga Bridge where he intentionally slammed his car into the bridge railing near Pillar Number 38 and plunged to his death.
Before committing suicide, the boy sent a message to his mother on WhatsApp asking her not to cry or mourn for his death.
Police still don't know the motive of the boy's irrational behavior but some people in his area suggested he was frustrated after a girl he was in love with rejected his feelings towards her.
Both State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) searched for the victim or the vehicle for hours but failed to find anything suggesting the strong current in the flooded river could have washed away the body and the vehicle far away from the site of incident.
The father of the son, however, was not ready to accept the police speculation saying until either the body or the vehicle was found, he would not be convinced that his son committed suicide.
