Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari, in a bid to minimize political fallout of the media reports that the Yadav brothers were thrashed by a group of people in Delhi during the New Year celebration in 2008 following charges of eve-teasing, rationalized the incident saying the boys were at an age when such acts (of eve-teasing) were considered normal.
Not denying the reports, Tiwari said that the boys were young and did not know any better given their age when most young boys do silly things like eve-teasing.
"If they don't look at girls at this age and don't indulge in such acts then when are they supposed to do it." The RJD spokesperson said in Patna on Sunday much to the delight of NDA leaders who wasted no time in slamming Tiwari for condoning the boys instead of reprimanding them.
Earlier, Janata Dal – U leaders Neeraj Kumar and Sanjay Singh, showing clippings from newspapers in Delhi from January 1, 2008, had said that Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi's two sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejaswi Yadav were caught engaging in eve-teasing on the eve of New Year's Day outside Ashoka Hotel, Connaught Place, and Mehrauli Farm House that led to their roughing-up by an angry mob.
Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder brother and now a former Bihar Health Minister, was injured seriously enough to be taken to a hospital for treatment, newspapers from the time had reported adding even the service revolver of the Yadav brother's security guard was taken away by the angry crowd.
The incident had occurred at the time when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister of India.
NDA leaders in Patna slammed Tiwari for justifying eve-teasing acts by the Yadav brothers saying these are the same two predators who were now pretending to be the champions of girls and women at a rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Saturday.
"Instead of reprimanding the sons of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tiwari is justifying their despicable acts and is giving shelter to them. He should be ashamed of himself," said Singh.
