Patna: Police in Patna on Monday arrested the manager and treasurer of 'Aasra', an NGO-run shelter home for girls and women located in Nepali Nagar under Rajiv Nagar police station in the state capital following the death of a 17-year-old girl and a 35-year-old woman under suspicious circumstances past Sunday.
Authorities arrested Chirantan Kumar, the manager of the Anumaya NGO that runs the shelter, and Manisha Dayal, the secretary/treasurer of the same NGO, after police filed FIRs against them on Sunday night.
The two were said to be being grilled by an ad hoc committee earlier formed by the government to get to the bottom of the truth. District Magistrate (DM) Ravi Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj are part of this fact-finding committee, Rajiv Nagar Police Station House Officer (SHO) Rohan Kumar said.
Two other persons, including Renu Sinha, an Aasra staff, have also been detained for interrogation, police said.
Police are also searching for a doctor and an auxiliary nurse in the case who are said to have gone into hiding shortly after the death of 17-year-old Poonam Kumari and 35-year-old Babli.
As reported, the victims were taken to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Sunday night only after their condition had deteriorated gravely. At the hospital, doctors declared both dead on arrival.
Reports said Manisha Dayal, who had a short stint as a fashion model before she joined the NGO, is distantly related to a senior Bihar politician.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
