Patna: Crackdown on illegal encroachment continued in Patna on Monday as Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) workers razed several constructions and signs built on public properties in violation of a number of zonal rules and regulations.

Starting as early as 7:00 am, workers in bulldozers took to streets on Ashok Rajpath, Kadam Kuan, Pirmuhani, Rajendra Nagar, Kankarbagh and other areas and demolished illegal building extension, signboards, and vendors' stalls built on sidewalks making it difficult for pedestrians.

Officials also collected more than Rs. 80,000 in fines from over a dozen shops who were found to be in violation of the zonal laws. Many were fined for building illegal parking places to accommodate their customers.

Earlier, authorities had leveled illegal constructions on Boring Canal Road, Bailey Road, Pataliputra Roundabout, Chiraiyantand, Mahendru Chowk, Ashok Rajpath, Sultanganj and other places.

The anti-encroachment drive is to continue till the end of this month as directed by the Patna High Court.
