Patna: In a rather sudden move, the Modi-led NDA government at the Center on Tuesday announced reshuffling of Governors in ten states including in Bihar where Governor Satya Pal Malik was replaced by Lalji Tandon, a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, as Malik was made Governor of Jammu & Kashmir replacing incumbent Governor N N Vohra.
Malik served Bihar from September 30, 2017 to August 21, 2018 for a total of 10 months and 22 days. He had replaced Kesari Nath Tripathi, the West Bengal Governor who was given additional charge of Bihar after Ram Nath Kovind, now the President of India, was recalled to Delhi by the Central government.
Tandon, born April 12, 1935, is a native of Uttar Pradesh and is considered a protégé of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who died last week at the age of 93.
Meanwhile, Baby Rani Maurya, former Agra mayor and ex-member of National Commission for Women (NCW) was made the Governor of Jharkhand.
Satyadeo Narayan Arya, a seven-time Bihar legislator from Nalanda district, was appointed as the Governor of Haryana.
Another native of Bihar and Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad was made the Governor of Sikkim.
Both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi welcomed Tandon saying the two looked forward to work with the new occupant of the Raj Bhawan saying the new Governor had a long record in public service and his experience would bring many new ideas in the state.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
