Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejaswi Yadav, at a press conference in Patna on Wednesday, slammed the Modi-led NDA government at the Center and the Nitish government in Bihar for ignoring the plights of the poor that is leading to deaths due to starvation.

Referring to the death of two children in Dumraon block in Buxar district earlier this month, the former Deputy Chief Minister and the leader of the opposition in Bihar Assembly said that the Nitish government was involved in a massive cover-up to hide the unfortunate incident where the victims died of starvation and not because of some illness as proclaimed by the Nitish administration.

"If what the officials are saying is true that the children died of illness and not due to hunger, why did the government give them 20 kilograms of wheat and 20 kilograms of rice to the victims' family?" he asked.

Accusing the Chief Minister of attempting to hide the truth about the failure of his government, Yadav, who has emerged as the de facto leader of the party following the incarceration of his father and party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case, said that Shiv Kumar, the father of the deceased children, despite carrying the Rojgar Guarantee Card issued to him by the erstwhile UPA government nearly ten years ago, was without a job and had been recently arrested and sent to jail on some minor offense.

"The family had no food to eat and was surviving by diving in dumpsters. The government failed to protect them and now that the children are dead, the Chief Minister is sending 20 kg of rice and equal amount of wheat to them to hide his guilt. Is this how one defines 'Achchey Din' (better days)?" Yadav said demanding stern action against erring government officials.

The RJD leader also ridiculed the Chief Minister's six-hour-long meeting with senior law enforcement officials on Wednesday saying many criminals were the members of the Janata Dal – U who were being protected by Nitish Kumar himself.
