Patna: Police in Patna on late Wednesday night arrested four men in connection with the abduction of Pankaj Kumar, the son of retired clerk Mohan Prasad, from Phulwari area in Patna district.
At a press conference on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said that police were notified of Pankaj's abduction on September 11. The kidnappers were demanding Rs. 30 lakh in exchange for the release of the victim.
"Based on the information gathered by the police during its course of investigation, raids were carried out in a number of localities in Phulwari Sharif with the help of SP (West) and Phulwari SDPO. Four men were arrested and charged with abduction of Pankaj Kumar. However, two men are still absconding and efforts are being made to apprehend them," the SSP said.
As reported, the victim is a con man who has swindled dozens of people to the tune of several lakh rupees by promising to get employment for them.
"When he failed to deliver on his false promises, his victims demanded their money back. When Pankaj failed to pay them back, they hatched the plan to kidnap him and extort money from his father," police said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
