Patna: Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress Party on Tuesday appointed Bihar Legislative Council leader Madan Mohan Jha as the new president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) replacing Kaukab Qadri who will continue to serve the party as the BPCC working president.
Jha, a native of Darbhanga, is the son of former Education Minister Nagendra Jha and was nominated to the Bihar Legislative Council on the teachers' quota.
He also served as the state Revenue Minister in the erstwhile Grand Alliance government.
Besides Qadri, Shyam Sundar Singh Dheeraj, Ashok Kumar, and Samir Kumar Singh were also named working president of the state Congress party.
The appointments were made by party national President Rahul Gandhi, Qadri, who had replaced Ashok Kumar Chowdhary who was unceremoniously removed from his post after he criticized his own party and praised Janata Dal – U leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the fallout of the collapse of Lalu-led Grand Alliance in Bihar in September 2017, said.
Talking to reporters during an event to welcome Jha, Qadri said that the party has formed a working committee of 24 members and an advisory committee that has 19 members. Senior party leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh has been entrusted with leading the campaign committee.
"Party's mission is to uproot Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power in 2019," Qadri said adding he would work with other party members to make Congress once again strong in the state.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
