Patna: Members of the All India Bhumihar Brahman Mahasabha and other 'upper-caste' outfits in Patna on Thursday demonstrated outside the office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal – U to demand release of 'innocent men' arrested during the last two Bharat Bandhs while also demanding scrapping of a number of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe laws.
Torching the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continuing to follow the status quo on SC/ST Acts, protestors from All India Bhumihar Brahman Mahasabha, Sawarn Ekta Manch, Aarakshan Nyay Andolan, and Bhumihar Brahman Adhikar Manch shouted anti-Modi slogans accusing BJP and Congress of 'devising new techniques to torture members of the upper castes' and causing rift among the citizen in the name of caste and SC/ST Act.
"By providing reservation in jobs, promotions, and admission in educational institutes, the government has created social divide among the people of India. Seventy-one years after Independence, if people still cannot stand on their own two feet then it is time to scrap it and offer reservation only on the basis of one's income and economic status and not on the basis of one's caste," said protest coordinator Vivek Sharma.
Sharma further said that the police in Nalanda, Naubatpur, Begusarai, and Nawada, during August 9 and September 6 nationwide bandh, filed false FIRs against a number of innocent people and put them in jail.
"We demand their immediate release and withdrawal of SC/ST Act without any delay," he said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
