Patna: Police in Patna on Saturday arrested a youth in Phulwari Sharif and claimed to have foiled an attempt to bomb a Muharram procession in Isha Nagar, as an act of revenge for a similar incident that occurred last year.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Naya Tola under Phulwari police station and arrested one Mohammed Bakar with a live crude bomb and a motorcycle.

During his interrogation, Bakar admitted of plotting to bomb a Muharram procession to be taken out from Isha Nagar in an act of revenge.

"People of the Isha Nagar had lobbed bombs at our procession last year that was taken out from Gyas Nagar. As a result, the procession from Gyas Nagar, which I am a part of, was cancelled this year. I wanted to get even with Isha Nagar and that is why I wanted to disrupt today's procession by throwing a bomb on it," Bakar told the police.

A resident of Ekangarsarai in Nalanda district, Bakar said he obtained the bomb from some individual in Bakerganj in Patna and was also a member of the Manish Mallick motorcycle gang in Phulwari Sharif.

Police are trying to identify and locate the man in Bakerganj who gave the bomb to Bakar, Phulwari police station in-charge Kaisar Alam said.
