Patna: Union Law Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday met with a delegation of Muslim women who expressed their gratitude to the Center for proposing the 'Triple Talaq' bill that intends to do away with the Muslim practice of divorcing one's wife by saying the word 'talaq' three times either in spoken, written, or electronic form.

Welcoming the women at his residence in Patna, Prasad said that the bill was revolutionary in its idea as it gave power to Muslim women many of whom have suffered in the hands of their husbands with no fault of their own.

Presenting roses to the Law Minister, the women thanked him and the Prime Minister saying now they felt they had found freedom in real sense as they had been at the receiving end for much too long in the hands of their husbands.

"This bill is historical and will go a long way in protecting us and our honor," the women said.

"You can tell how successful this bill is by seeing the smile on women's faces," Prasad told the reporters.
