Patna: In a move that stunned a number of his own party members, Janata Dal – U president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave a Durga Puja gift to political strategist Prashant Kishor by giving him the second highest post within the party – that of the post of party's national vice president.

Kishor, who has bounced around a number of political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, JD-U, and Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Grand Alliance in Bihar in various capacities, had joined hands with Nitish Kumar exactly a month ago after initially maintaining that he had no desire to join any particular political party.

This is the first time the JD-U has created the post of national vice president.

Considered to be some sort of a political wonderkid, Kishore is given credit for the landslide win of Narendra Modi in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and later for the decisive win of the Grand Alliance in Bihar.

Calling him the 'future' of Bihar, the Chief Minister said that Kishor would be helpful in building bridges between different political parties and change the image of politics as we know it today.

Thanking Kumar for posing trust in him, Kishor said that he was honored by his elevation within the party and promised to fulfill his responsibility with utmost sincerity and honesty.

Sources within the party, however, say that there is some degree of resentment among some senior leaders who feel they have been slighted by Kumar despite being loyal to him and the party for many years.
