Decomposed Body of Missing Youth Recovered in Patna

Patna: Police in Patna on Sunday recovered the body of a youth who had been reported missing since October 18. Family members identified the remains as the body of 21-year old Samir Sagar, a student of Polytechnic College in Supaul.

As reported, Samir was in Patna with his girlfriend, whose name was not released, and one of his friends who was identified as Mantu, a resident of Bikram in Patna district. The three had visited a number Durga Puja related fairs and carnivals in Patna and then later gone to Mithapur bus stand to put the girl in a bus scheduled for Muzaffarpur.

Recounting their movement on October 18, Mantu, who police took in custody for interrogation, said that once at the bus stand, Samir told him to wait while he and his girlfriend left saying they will be back in few minutes.

When the two failed to return to the bus stand, Mantu returned to Bikram and told Samir's family members that he could not find him.

Samir's maternal uncle informed the police but they failed to take any action saying perhaps he would return home soon.

On Saturday evening, locals in Jakkanpur area noticed foul stench coming out of a drainage behind Chandragupta Institute of Management (CIMP) building and informed the police. Upon search, the decomposing body of Samir who recovered.

The body was identified by his uncle and other family members.

Police found signs of injuries consistent with attack using heavy, blunt object though preliminary investigation suggested death caused by asphyxiation.

The body was sent to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for an autopsy.

Authorities are trying to identify and locate the girl who was with Samir, police said.
