Patna: Leaders from both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal – U on Wednesday took part in the 'Run for Unity' organized by the Rashtriya Ekta Manch in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the 'Ironman of India' and the 'Unity Man', who was born on this day in 1875.
The run began from the Shaheed Smarak and after passing through Harding Road and Chitkohra Pul, arrived at the Patel Roundabout on Airport Road where they paid rich tribute to the freedom fighter.
Thousands of people, including many school children, participated in today's run that was flagged off by BJP state president Nityanand Rai at 9:00 am.
Besides Rai, others who took part in today's run included Central Ministers Ram Kripal Yadav and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Bihar Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Health Minister Mangal Pandey and legislators Sanjeev Chaurasia, Nitin Navin, Asha Sinha and many others.
Meanwhile, the state bureaucracy also observed Patel's birthday by organizing a run of its own between the Raj Bhawan Roundabout and Rajdhani Vatika, previously known as Eco Park, not too far from the Governor's mansion.
Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) K S Dwivedi administered 'oath of unity and indivisibility' to government officials.
