Patna: Authorities in Patna on Wednesday sacked a police inspector (Bihar Military Police-5) after a woman constable lodged a complaint against him accusing him of sexual harassment.
Shambhu Sharan Rathore, a Subedar, was fired from his job after a woman trainee police constable sought her seniors' intervention following a harassment incident on Wednesday morning during which Rathore, with his accuser in the office, locked the door from inside and tried assaulted her sexually.
The woman somehow managed to escape from the room and told her harrowing experience to a senior police officer.
As more women constables came out to file complaints against Rathore, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) K S Dwivedi wasted no time and fired him immediately.
This, however, did not satisfy Rathore's victims who threatened to launch a stir if authorities did not file a legal case against their attacker.
An FIR, at the behest of the DGP, was lodged with the women's police station.
The victim said that earlier on Wednesday she had gone to take part in the 'Run for Unity' sponsored by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She was helping the participants with water bottles and other items. At the end of the run, she was left with many items that Rathore put in a cardboard box and asked her to carry it to his office.
Once inside the office, Rathore closed the door from inside and made sexual advances towards her. She, however, managed to escape from the room and told a senior police official about her experience.
Officials said Rathore appears to have gone in hiding and attempts are being made to locate him.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
