Patna: Patna University Vice Chancellor Dr. Ras Bihari Prasad Singh, at a press conference in Patna on Friday, announced the date of the next student union election saying it would be held on December 5 with nomination forms being made available from November 22.

Nomination for various posts in the Patna University Students' Union (PUSU) will have to be filed between November 24 and 26 and each entry would have to go through some serious vetting before being accepted, Singh said.

As reported on this website earlier, the last election of the PUSU that was held in 2018 was mired in controversies with the university scrapping the election of both the President-elect Divyanshu Bhardwaj and Vice President-elect Yoshita Patwardhan for filing wrong affidavits and providing false information in their nomination papers.

Patna High Court later validated the election of Bhardwaj saying the Vice Chancellor had erred in his decision to cancel his election. However, no such luck for Patwardhan whose election was scrapped on the ground that she allegedly failed to reveal that she had flunked the BA Part I (Honors) exam at Magadh Mahila College in 2017 though she was later promoted to Part II of the course.

"This year, the union aspirants will have to go through extreme rigorous scrutiny in order to avoid the repeat of last year's debacle. It is strongly advised that candidates do not file wrong information on their nomination papers because if found to be guilty, the university will take tough measures against them," the Vice Chancellor said.

Dr. Khagendra Kumar has been appointed the Chief Election Officer and Dr. Rama Shankar Arya will act as his chief advisor," he said.

Prof. N K Jha, the Dean of the Student Welfare, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Dolly Sinha, and PU Registrar G K Palai were also present at the press conference.
