Patna: The visit by the political pundit-turned Janata Dal – U leader Prashant Kishore to the office of Patna University Vice Chancellor Ras Bihari Prasad Singh just a day before the Patna University Students' Union (PUSU) election has turned into an embarrassment for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who is being accused by his own allies in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to influence the poll results in favor of his party candidates.
On Tuesday, BJP legislators Arun Kumar Sinha, Nitin Navin, and Sanjeev Chaurasia sat on a day-long dharna with the members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, outside Pirbahore police station demanding arrest of Kishore and firing of PU Vice Chancellor.
"There is a model code of conduct in effect in the entire Patna University campus so under what capacity Prashant Kishore had gone to meet with the VC? This must be investigated," Sinha said.
Nitin Navin accused the administration of abuse of power when the police arrested Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activist Ravi Karan on false charges.
Dharna was eventually called off after Ravi Karan was granted a bail at around 2:00 pm.
As reported yesterday, angry ABVP students pelted Kishore's car with stones on Monday when he came out of the meeting with the Vice Chancellor in the presence of an election official igniting the speculation that he was there to manage the outcome of the election in favor of the JD-U backed candidates.
So far, Nitish Kumar has maintained complete silence on the issue.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
