Patna: Nursing students of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna on Tuesday went on a rampage following the suicide death of a fellow student forcing the institute to shut down until further notification.

The incident took place a day after a student, who was identified as 20-year old Khushbu, committed suicide by hanging herself after flunking in four papers in an exam recently held.

As reported, irate students disrupted normal work in the hospital for more than an hour and clashed with doctors who were there to carry out an autopsy on the deceased. Demanding immediate removal of the principal of the nursing college, students alleged that Khushbu did not commit suicide and instead was murdered by someone.

They also tried to stop the doctors from conducting post mortem saying the college was responsible for Khushbu's death and therefore, must be held responsible for the unfortunate incident.

About half a dozen girls were taken into police custody and were charged with vandalization and disrupting normal operation at the hospital putting many patients in danger.

Hospital officials said the administration will re-evaluate the situation after a week to decide whether the college should be re-opened or not.

Students were ordered to vacate their hostel rooms until a decision was taken whether the college will re-open anytime soon or not.

A special fact-finding team has been formed to investigate the circumstances that led to the suicide of Khushbu, officials said.

Meanwhile, victim's husband Nishu Raj filed an FIR with the Shastri Nagar police station against the nursing college principal and other college officials for the death of his wife and for mentally torturing other students of the college.
