Patna: Just two days after a police jawan was gunned down near Kankarbagh in Patna, criminals in state capital on Wednesday morning shot and killed a High Court lawyer leading to a massive protest by the advocates who blocked the busy Bailey Road for hours demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

As reported, 55-year old advocate Jitendra Kumar was going to meet one of his seniors on Monday morning on his scooter. When he reached the Water Board office in Punaichak under Shastri Nagar police station, motorcycle-borne criminals from behind open several rounds of fire hitting their target many times.

Kumar, a native of Khagaul in Patna district, fell on the ground and died on the spot.

Disturbed by the chilling murder of one of their colleagues, High Court lawyers blocked Bailey Road outside Patna High Court and clashed with police while also damaging a number of vehicles. After much efforts, officials were able to remove the crowd before it could become even more violent.

Reports said the murder of Kumar was related to family dispute over some properties. Estranged from his family, he lived with his elder brother in a rented flat in Magistrate Colony.

The brother, who has a homeopathic clinic near the Shiv Temple in Khajpura, told the police that it were his own family members who conspired with criminals to kill his brother over a disputed piece of land in Khagaul area.

The brother has filed an FIR against his own mother, victim's wife, his brother-in-law, his mother-in-law, and father-in-law along with four others in the killing of Jitendra Kumar.

Police is investigating the case from a number of angles, Sachivalaya DSP Rajesh Kumar Prabhakar said.
