Patna: Congress leaders in Patna on Sunday celebrated the 72nd birthday of former party chairperson Sonia Gandhi by cutting a cake and donating educational materials to children from the nearby slums.
Those present on the occasion included party working committee president Shyam Sundar Singh Dheeraj, former Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) chairperson Anil Kumar Sharma, and many others.
Tariq Anwar, who recently dumped his old party Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in favor of Congress Party, was also present on the occasion at the Sadaqat Ashram.
"Sonia Gandhi's family members including her husband Rajiv Gandhi and mother-in-law Indira Gandhi gave their lives while serving for the country. Their numerous sacrifices cannot be forgotten and India is very grateful to this family," Anwar said.
Children from slums were encouraged to study when leaders handed them out text books, pencil sets, slates, other learning tools along with cake, chocolates, and sweets.
A similar event was held at the Old Age Home where Congress women's wing president and legislator Amita Bhushan cut cake in honor of Sonia Gandhi. She also distributed fruits and blankets to poor old people.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
