Patna: With Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj having been promoted to the post of DIG (Munger range) after serving Patna for many years, his successor Garima Malik, a 2006 Bihar cadre IPS officer, took charge as the new Patna SSP in the presence of top Bihar brass at the police headquarters on Friday.

Police officers and jawans welcomed Malik with flower bouquets and vowed to give her full support in rooting out crime from Patna district.

Back in 2015, Malik, a native of Faridabad in Haryana, had served as the Rural SP of Patna district.

Speaking on the occasion, the new SSP pledged to go after criminals in view of the rising crime graph in the state capital.

"We will come up with a new strategy to identify and apprehend criminals. This is not going to be easy but I will not tolerate any compromise on this issue," she said.

Meanwhile, her predecessor Manu Maharaj was given a warm and emotional send-off at the police line in Patna that left many with teary eyes.

"I came from the valleys of Himachal but once I came to Bihar, I became a complete Bihari. The love I got in Patna will serve as energy in parting my duties in Munger. I promise you I will not let you down. Theek se rahiha sab log, hum jaat bani'," the outgoing SSP said mixing Hindi with Bhojpuri to express his thanks to the people of Patna while wishing them goodluck.
