Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, speaking at a function to welcome Narendra Singh, a businessman from Paliganj, in the Janata Dal – U on Thursday, came out heavily against those who had been demanding the repeal of Article 370 that grants autonomy to violence-ridden state of Jammu & Kashmir in the backdrop of Pulwama terror attack that left 40 CRPF jawans, including two from Bihar, dead.

With emotions running high as demand for strong military action against Pakistan continues to get louder, demand for doing away with Article 370 has also gained currency in the last few days.

“We should never even think of repealing Article 370 because it will only punish the law-abiding citizens of Kashmir. While all necessary action should be taken to counter terror attacks on the Indian soil, we cannot put the people of the region under any more hardships after what they have been undergoing for years,” Kumar said.

The Chief Minister said that his party’s stand on Article 370 was very clear and under no circumstances he would advocate for a change in the status quo.

Kumar welcomed Singh in the party saying not only he was a very successful businessman, he was also a well-known social worker in the state.
