Patna: Upset that a rash driver on Bailey Road in Patna was able to penetrate his security gauntlet on Tuesday night causing some commotion for a few minutes, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a function at Adhiveshan Bhawan on Wednesday, admonished Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey of concentrating on his job instead of trying to hog the headlines in the media.

An uncharacteristic Kumar, apparently unhappy over the DGP’s constant media interview and press conferences, warned Pandey of the danger of becoming too chummy with the media saying the same media that loves him now will throw him out like yesterday’s news when he is not serving their interest.

“Your statements are being published on the frontpage of all newspapers and people are clapping on your media statements. This same media, if you’re not careful, will tear you into pieces in the next 4-5 months if they see you talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. Nobody knows when this media will turn against you so the best thing for you would be to speak less and continue to do your job,” Kumar advised the DGP.

The Chief Minister, visibly annoyed by last night’s incident on Bailey Road, said that it was the responsibility of the police department to maintain law and order in the state and that is all he was going to say. Rest was up to the police officers, he said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister, who is on a non-stop inauguration spree unveiling one new scheme after another since last couple of months totaling in excess of several lakh crore rupees, inaugurated more schemes to the tune of Rs. 3226-crore.

He also handed out appointment letters to sportsmen for performing good in both national and international events.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav were among many who were present on the occasion.
