Patna: Authorities in Patna on Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, stopped a truck in Jaya Prakash Nagar under Jakkanpur police station and seized 250 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMLF) for a total of 5808 bottles while also arresting three men involved in transporting the illegal consignment.

The retail value of the liquor seized today is said to be in excess of Rs. 60 lakh.

Arrested men were identified as Vikki, Deepak, and Arvind. Based on their statements, police are raiding a number of places in Patna and elsewhere where they expect to find more illegal liquor brought to Bihar from other states.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Garima Malik, talking to reporters, said that the police had been informed of a suspicious truck parked in Jaya Prakash Nagar with two men guarding it. Several plain-clothed policemen were dispatched to monitor activities near the truck.

As police continued to keep an eye on the truck, a man was seen driving a tractor and parking it near the truck. Soon the three men opened the back of the truck and began unloading cartons of liquor on the tractor when policemen emerged from their hiding places and took them in custody. They seized the truck and the tractor along with 250 cartons of liquor.

The SSP said the truck was coming from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh and the sender of the consignment was one Pradeep Gupta, a liquor mafia goon with connections in Bihar.

A team of Patna police is expected to leave for Jaunpur soon to further investigate the matter, SSP Malik said.
