New Delhi: Lifelong Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former actor Shatrughan Sinha at a function in Delhi on Saturday joined the Congress Party in the presence of senior party leader KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala and others though the absence of party chief honchos like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, or Priyanka Gandhi did not go unnoticed by the media or the BJP leaders.

In his induction speech, Sinha ripped his former party saying the BJP had sunk into a ‘One-Man Show and a Two-Men Army’, a line he has frequently used to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his trusted aide and BJP president Amit Shah.

The ex-BJP leader earlier tweeted: "It's with a heavy heart and immense pain that I finally bid adieu to my old party, for reasons best known to all of us, on April 6, which also happens to be the Sansthapna Diwas (Foundation Day) of the BJP."

Sinha, not holding back anymore, said that under Modi’s leadership, India has slipped into dictatorship where any voice of dissent is labeled as ‘enemy of the nation’ and senior party leaders like L K Advani, Jaswant Singh, and Yashwant Sinha were relegated into obscurity in the name of ‘Margdarshaks’, or ‘guides’, of the party.

He further said that he did not hold any ill-will against any BJP leaders as they were like his family members and he was groomed by stalwarts like Nanaji Deshmukh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and L.K. Advani.

“I told them on a number of occasions that the nation comes above the party and party is bigger than an individual. However, instead of listening to what I had to say, I was branded as a rebel. This led me to say that if speaking truth was an act of rebellion then yes, I was a rebel,” he said.

Without mentioning the name of the Prime Minister, the former Bollywood actor said that people of India have come to realize his bluffs and false promises and he stood exposed before the Indian public. He called Modi’s demonetization move as "probably the world's biggest scam" calling it a “mindless decision’ that led to the death of many people.

72-year old actor-turned-politician accused Modi of engaging in massive propaganda saying the money that the BJP was spending on campaign and publicity could have been spent on developmental projects that would have benefitted the people of India.

He also thanked the Congress party and praised party president Rahul Gandhi calling him a ‘tried, tested, and a dynamic leader who was the face and future of the nation.

Sinha is now poised to contest the Lok Sabha election from Patna Saheb seat on Congress ticket where he would be facing his former colleague Ravi Shankar Prasad.
