Patna: Police in Patna on Tuesday arrested three men in connection with the April 12 murder of confectioner Shankar Patel who was gunned down in Malsalami area in Patna City in broad daylight.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Garima Malik said that the police had formed a special investigative team led by City SP (East) R K Bheel to find the killers of Patel who was shot dead during a bomb explosion on April 12 not too far from his shop.

Patel's murder was the result of a carefully-plotted plan hatched by none other than noted criminal Shyam Gope who makes Patna's Beur Jail his home, the SSP said.

The arrested men were identified as Vikas Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, and Roshan Kumar. Police also recovered three pistols that were used in committing the crime and a handful of live cartridges along with cell phones and other items.

A fourth man who also took part in the crime is still sought by the police.

The SSP said that the plan was hatched during Gope's recent appearance in a court where Vikas and the missing man met him to discuss the idea. Later, the two met with Gope in his jail cell to finalize the plan.

Gope agreed to pay Rs. 3 lakh for the murder of Patel. While the two men were to receive Rs. 60,000 each, the remaining Rs. 180,000 was to be equally shared by Vikas and the missing person, the police said.
