Patna: Congress candidate from Patna Saheb Shatrughan Sinha on Monday filed his nomination papers at the Collectorate office in the presence of his son Luv Sinha, senior Congress leader Akhilesh Singh and hundreds of his supporters.

Prior to filing his nomination, the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader took out a roadshow after performing puja at his residence in Kadam Kuan at 11:30 am.

With Sinha, his son and his supporters on a bus decked with flowers, party banners, and posters of prominent Congress leaders, the procession arrived at the historical Congress Maidan also located in Kadam Kuan where he talked to his supporters and well-wishers for a few minutes.

Then after passing through Nala Road, Thakurbari Road, Bakerganj, and Gandhi Maidan, the bus arrived at the Collectorate office at around 2:00 pm when the Congress candidate filed his papers before election officer Kumar Ravi.

Sinha appealed to the voters to make him victorious by a big margin so he could continue to be the voice of reasoning in the Parliament.

Interestingly, no other leader from the Grand Alliance including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) took part in the roadshow or was present at the office of the election officer.

The rally did cause road jam in many areas including Nala Road and Bakerganj where people had lined up on both sides to see the former film star who put Bihar on the Bollywood map by his acting skills and by never apologizing for his Bihari roots that earned him the moniker of 'Bihari Babu'.

As noted, Sinha, a lifelong BJP leader, changed his allegiance to Congress a few days ago after the BJP refused to field him for the third time from his Patna Saheb Lok Sabha seat replacing him with fellow-Patna'ite and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Patna Saheb goes to poll in the seventh and last phase of the election on May 19.
