Patna: Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday organized an Iftar party in Patna that was attended by senior party leaders including Shatrughan Sinha, the new member of the party and the parliamentary candidate from Patna Saheb.
Later, campaigning for Sinha on Dargah Road, Azad said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cheated and defrauded the people of India as he failed to keep any of his promises that he made in 2014.
"He did not put money in people's banks as he had promised during his election campaign in 2014. His demonetization and GST moves have crippled the country benefitting only the large conglomerates at the cost of small business owners and India has just about had it with his divisive politics that pitches one community against other for political gains," the Congress leader said.
Azad then praised Shatrughan Sinha saying he showed guts and conviction when he openly opposed Narendra Modi and his policies while still being a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"There is an anti-Modi wave going around and on May 23, people of India will show him the door once and for all," he said.
Among those present on the occasion included Shakti Sinh Gohil, Madan Mohan Jha, Tariq Anwar, Kaukab Qadri and other Congress leaders.
