Patna: Obviously embarrassed by his stunning defeat in the hands of his former colleague Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP leader-turned-Congress candidate from Patna Saheb Shatrughan Sinha conceded defeat on Thursday and sent congratulation to his opponent saying he wished him the best and hoped Prasad would now work to make Patna a 'smart city'.
Talking to reporters in Patna, Sinha, who was banking on the voters' love for the 'Bihari Babu' to coast to victory, said that he accepted the poll verdict with humility and extended his congratulations to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
He also congratulated BJP national president Amit Shah and called him a 'master political strategist'.
Referring to Prasad as his 'brother', Sinha said that though he did not win, his brother won.
"Ghee to daal mein hi gira", he said suggesting it did not matter if he won or Prasad, either one was good for Patna.
"Shri Prasad should work hard to make Patna a smart city. He should use his power and position to spur investment in the state capital and help improve job opportunities for the youths," the former Bollywood star said.
Sinha, however, alluded to possible bungling in the electoral process saying reports of EVM tampering were received from many polling booths. He was quick to add though that this was not the right time to discuss it and he would continue to serve the people of Patna in spite of not being able to represent them in the Parliament.
"I would continue to work for the people of Patna from anywhere and in any capacity," he said.
When asked about his future plans, Sinha said he was not in a position to predict the future.
He also denied having second thoughts about quitting BJP and joining the Congress Party.
"I have no regrets about leaving the BJP because everyone knows under what circumstances I had to leave my party," he said.
Unfortunately for the former MP from Patna Saheb, his wife Poonam Sinha who recently jumped into politics by joining the Samajwadi Party (SP) and contested Lok Sabha election against BJP veteran Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, also lost her election bid by a very large margin.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
