Police Seizes Properties in Connection with May 27 Murder

Patna: Police in Patna on Thursday attached the properties of Shankar Rai in connection with the murder of one Ravi Rai that was committed on the morning of May 27 when motorcycle-borne criminals riddled his body with bullets as he returned home from his routine morning stroll.

Confiscation of Shankar Rai's properties was ordered by a court after he failed to appear before a judge despite a summon issued to him earlier, officials said.

The attachment of property in Dujra under Buddha Colony police station began around 2:00 pm and lasted several hours during which district officials took away everything including doors, windows, bed mattress, utensils and furniture leaving hardly anything behind.

As recalled, Ravi Rai, a notorious criminal himself with many cases of murder, extortion, possession of illegal weapons against him, was returning to his home around 6:00 am after his routine morning walk when motorcycle-borne criminals opened fire at him near Jaikunj Apartments killing him on the spot.

Police cracked the case wide open after going through surveillance footages from the area that led to the arrest of a hostel manager Aditya Kumar. Aditya told the police that it was at his hostel the plan to kill Ravi was hatched by Shankar Rai, Bhola Rai, and one another person.

"According to Aditya, after committing the murder, the three came back to the same hostel to celebrate the success of their plan," police said.

Shankar Rai is still on run from the police.
