Patna: National Investigation Agency (NIA) agents on Thursday carried out simultaneous raids at various known addresses of former legislator and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Hulas Pandey and his brother Santosh Pandey in connection with the theft of AK-47 rifles from a Jabalpur armory in 2018 some of which were recovered from Munger last year.

The two Pandeys are the brother of Sunil Pandey, a former JD-U legislator who himself has a long rap sheet with Bihar law enforcement agencies.

Besides raids at Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, and Rohtas districts, police also raided houses in Uttar Pradesh.

In Patna, police raided Pandey's homes in Patel Nagar and Samanpura that lasted more than six hours starting at eight in the morning, NIA IG Alok Mittal said adding police seized a rifle, several cartridges, nearly Rs. 30 lakh in cash, several laptops and mobile phones from the two houses.

Both Hulas Pandey and Santosh Pandey were present during the raid.

Santosh told the police that his rifle was licensed but he could not produce the papers of its ownership because the licenses had expired and was in the process of being renewed.
