Patna: About a dozen armed gangsters in Patna on Friday robbed a jewelry shop on Digha-Ashiana Road under Rajiv Nagar police station and escaped with more than Rs. 4 crore worth of precious gems and gold and silver jewelries after taking all employees hostage at gun points.

The incident occurred around 1:00 pm when 12 men posing as customers walked into the posh Panchwati Ratnalaya and Jewelry Boutique shop located near the passport office. While ten armed men took the owner of the shop Ratnesh Sharma and eight employees hostage at gun point, two other gang members locked the main entrance from outside and stood there making sure cops were not on their way.

When a guard on duty tried to stop the robbery, the criminals hit him on his head causing it to bleed profusely. The robbers also hit the shop owner on his head with a pistol causing him to collapse on the floor.

Senior police officials including Patna IG Sunil Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Garima Mallik arrived at the shop to review the crime scene and to collect forensic evidences.

Police have formed a special investigative team to catch the criminals. Video surveillance footages are also being collected from the area, the SSP said.
