Draw of Luck Makes Meera Devi the New Deputy Mayor of Patna

Patna: Drama for the post of Deputy Mayor at the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) continued on Saturday when Meera Devi prevailed over her only opponent Ashish Sinha during the draw of the name after both candidates garnered 37 votes each in the regular voting phase.

Newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Patna Meera Devi.As reported, both Meera Devi, a councilor from Ward 72, and Ashish Sinha, the councilor from Ward 38, received 37 votes each forcing the election committee to draw the name of the winner from a jar.

Interestingly, losing candidate Ashish Sinha is a supporter of Mayor Sita Sahu while Meera Devi belongs to the former Deputy Mayor Vinay Kumar Pappu faction.

The game of 'Who Wants to Be the Next Deputy Mayor of Patna?' began with eight hopefuls but three of them were not even present at the time of the voting. The other three failed to get even one vote while Sinha and Devi securing 37 votes each setting up the drama for a tie-breaker in which Meera Devi emerged the luckier of the two candidates.
