Patna: What was supposed to be a routine affair with most politicians fairly experienced in taking part in the event involving burning of effigies, a Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) leader was hurt in the incident when his own face caught fire while trying to torch an effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Tuesday.

As reported, the party of former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha had planned an effigy-burning event at the Income Tax Roundabout Tuesday afternoon to protest rising crime against women in Bihar.

It just so happened that while pouring petrol on the effigy, a bit of gasoline spilled on RLSP leader and state general secretary Umesh Nishad. When Nishad lit the effigy, his face also caught fire leaving him squirming in pain.

He was immediately rushed to the nearby Gardener Road Hospital where he was treated for first degree burns though some parts of the face were more affected than others.

Other RLSP leaders including Satyanand Prasad Dangi and Bhola Sharma were also present on the occasion who, before leaving for the hospital to check on Umesh Nishad, said that the girls and women of Bihar were not safe any longer in the Nitish administration and the current government deserved to be dissolved.
