Patna: Nearly 70% of the lawyers in Patna cast their ballots on Friday to elect new office bearers of the Advocate Association of Patna High Court that is said to be the oldest association of the legal fraternity in Bihar.

Lawyers cast their votes to fill the post of president, vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, and members of the working committee.

The poll opened at 10:00 am and concluded at 5:00 pm. Out of 3652 lawyers registered with the Patna High Court, 2340 were said to have cast their ballots.

The counting of ballots began at 10:00 am on Saturday.

For a total of 25 different posts, 105 lawyers, including 11 female candidates, are in the race.

Chief Election Coordinator Ram Sandesh Rai said that ballots were held at 12 polling booths each being manned by four male lawyers and one female lawyer.

The ballot boxes, at the conclusion of the poll, were placed in a secured area of the court library with guards keeping an eye on it, Rai said.
