Patna: The state capital of Bihar, often known by its nickname of the 'city of statues', will be adding yet another monolith in its landscape after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced his decision to install a statue of the recently passed away Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley saying the former Union Minister played a key role in shaping Bihar during the 2005 state polls when he was the BJP in-charge of the state.

Speaking at a condolence meeting at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna on Saturday, the Chief Minister heaped praise on Jaitley who passed away after a brief illness on August 24.

Kumar also said that Jaitley's birthday would be celebrated by the Bihar government as a state function each year.

"Mr. Jaitley, who, despite being in the opposition party, never let his political views overshadow his personal relationship with leaders of other parties. He was like veteran socialist leader Madhu Dandvate who believed in resolving any political differences through meaningful dialog. Mr. Jaitley and I got to know each other well when we were part of the Vajpayee government in 1998. Our relationship got even stronger when he was appointed the BJP in-charge of Bihar during the 2005 Assembly elections," he said.

The Chief Minister said that Jaitley's life-size statue would be installed in Patna at a location to be identified at a later date.

Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and other BJP leaders also paid tribute to Jaitley at the function.
