Patna: While big Bollywood stars from Patna like Shatrughan Sinha and Shekhar Suman were missing in action when Patna'ites where struggling with a flood unlike any time in the past, or were reluctant to pull out their checkbooks to donate to the Chief Minister Flood Relief Fund, Hindi film industry's biggest star Amitabh Bachchan, donated Rs. 51 lakh to Bihar by writing a personal check to the flood relief fund.
In a letter sent to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bachchan, the star of hundreds of films who also holds an impressive resume involving his role on the small screen as a game show host or brand ambassador for a host of products, wrote: "Indeed I am deeply stricken by the natural calamity that has hit the state of Bihar. My deepest condolences and sympathies to all whose lives have been affected in the recent flood. Albeit in a small way, I extend my helping hand to ensure in the restoration of the human life in Bihar and thus enclose herewith cheque No. 098837 dated 4th October, 2019 amounting to Rs. 51,00,000/- (Rupees Fifty One Lakhs only) drawn on Bank of India, Juhu Branch, Mumbai, being my contribution towards Chief Minister Relief Fund, Bihar."
Last week, Patna witnessed flooding due to heavy rain for days that led to water-logging like never before in the history thanks to a crumbling infrastructure with undergrounds sewage in name only despite claims of development by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his lackeys.
So far, over 75 people have been confirmed dead due to direct result of the flood and hundreds others inflicted with diseases caused by stationary dirty water for days and mosquito bites.
"It is very charitable of Mr. Bachchan to step up to the plate and open up his wallet for the flood victims in Bihar and we are very appreciative of it," the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, it is not known if either Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman or any other film or television stars have made any contribution to the flood relief fund. Even noted film-maker Prakash Jha, who was at the forefront of many flood relief operations in the past, was missing in action.
One of the unlikely characters to emerge as a local hero is former Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav who has been seen distributing packaged food, water, and medicines to flood victims across Patna for the past several days.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
