Patna: Despite a not so stellar record on the launching of new luxury bus services in Bihar that rarely remain operational beyond the first few months after their launch before ending up in the proverbial 'bus graveyard', the Bihar Transport Department on Thursday launched 11 spanking new buses on three routes to cover various parts of the city as well as beyond the boundaries of the state capital.
The state government that has rolled out more than two dozen new bus services in Bihar amid much fanfare since 2005 only to find their way into obscurity, flagged off the latest caravan of luxury buses from the Patna Airport that is said to ease the life of Patna'ites to a great deal.
The buses were flagged off by Bihar Transport Minister Santosh Kumar Nirala in the presence of Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) official Amarendra Prasad Singh, and Patna Airport Director Bhupesh C H Negi, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal said that keeping in view of the increased traffic at the airport, four new bus services have been added between Patna Airport and Bankipore Bus Stand at the northern end of the Gandhi Maidan.
Previously, only two buses were plying on that route also known as Route Number 100, he said.
On its way to the Bankipore Bus Stand, these buses stop at Patna Junction, Old Secretariat, and Haj Bhavan.
The return service to the airport, known as Route Number 200, goes through Biscomaun Bhawan, Dak Bungalow Crossing, Patna Junction, Income Tax Bhawan, Secretariat, Patna Zoo and Sheikhpura Mor, Agarwal said.
The new service also adds five new buses between Bankipore Bus Stand and Danapur railway station.
A new route, 111A, offers ride between Patna and Danapur railway station via Biscomaun Bhawan, Dak Bungalow Crossing, Patna Junction, R-Block, Income Tax Bhawan, Hartali Mor, Patna Zoo, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Ashiana Mor, Jagdeo Path and Saguna Mor.
The fair between Bankipore Bus Stand and Danapur railway stations vary between Rs. 30 and maximum Rs 50.
Two additional bus services have been introduced that would leave for Rajgir from the airport via Mithapur, Hilsa and Islampur.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
