Patna: Patna welcomed the new year with late-night parties and bottles of non-alcoholic champagne at major hotels and night clubs while also witnessing a massive administrative reshuffle by the Nitish administration that included the departure of Garima Malik who, nearly a year to the date, was put in place as Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) pledging to clean Patna from the clutches of criminals.
Malik, who gave hopes to the people of Patna when she swore to free the state capital of crime a year ago, was sent to the CID as its DIG, paving way for her successor Upendra Sharma, the current Superintendent of Police (SP) of Motihari.
Another high-profile transfer of nearly two dozen IPS officers included the name of Lipi Singh, the Deputy SP of Barh, who was sent to Munger as its new SP. She replaces Gaurav Mangla who was sent to Vaishali in the same capacity.
It may be recalled that it was Lipi Singh, the daughter of Janata Dal-U MP RCP Singh, who led the raid at the house of criminal-turned-legislator Anant Singh in Mokama that led to his arrest following the recovery of an automatic rifles and hand grenades from his home.
Yet another prominent name in the transfer includes the name of Vikas Vaibhav, (DIG Eastern Range, Bhagalpur), who was moved to Patna as its IG, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
Though it is not quite clear what prompted the January 1 massive reshuffle, the fact that Bihar will be holding state elections in 2020 cannot be ruled out as the Nitish administration will certainly like to get all his ducks in the row before embarking on a statewide campaign tour.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
