Patna: A man outside the official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday tried to self-immolate in an attempt to attract the attention of the Chief Minister though he was quickly saved by the security guards on duty and taken away to the Gardanibagh police station.
The man seeking the attention of the Chief Minister was identified as Abhijeet Sharma of Hajipur who said he had been running from pillar to post to seek justice for his young cousins after their mother died of dengue six months ago as a direct result of negligence by doctors and hospitals of Bihar.
"My mausi Archana Devi of Kankarbagh died six months ago due to misdiagnosis and improper treatment by Patna doctors. Since then, I have left no stone unturned in seeking justice for my cousins. I went to police stations and even sought a hearing from the Chief Minister but where I went, I was told to go somewhere else. Finally, I decided that the only way to get the attention of the Chief Minister was to kill myself before his house," Sharma said.
He was rushed to the Gardanibagh hospital for burn injuries and then later taken to the police station where he is expected to face many charges.
Patna District Magistrate Kumar Ravi said if Abhijeet had come to him, he would have definitely listened to his grievances.
