Patna: A 45-year old woman died when she was hit by a huge crane near Changar Mor on New Bypass Road under Kankarbagh police station on Friday morning. The victim's 65-year old mother was also hit by the crane but she survived with a broken leg.
The driver of the crane managed to slip away before he could be confronted or identified.
As per the reports, 45-year old Pratima Devi, an Anganbari worker, was crossing the road with her mother Sumitra Devi to go to a drug store to get some medicine for her mother when the two women were hit by a huge crane.
While Pratima Devi died on the spot, her mother was left with a broken leg and other injuries.
The incident ignited a protest in the area where locals blocked the road for hours while refusing to remove the dead body until the administration caught the crane driver and pledged financial assistance to the victim's family.
After more than three hours of negotiation with the aggrieved family, the body of Pratima Devi was removed and crowd removed following a mild lathi charge by the police.
The police have seized the crane and are investigating the case to determine the identity of the driver and the crane owner, Kankarbagh police station in-charge Atulesh Singh said.
