Patna: Congress legislator Premchand Mishra, at a press conference at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna on Tuesday, accused the Nitish government of massive financial irregularities in the 'Superstructure Construction' of the Gandhi Setu that connects the state capital to Hajipur across the Ganges on the north side.

"We have carried out an extensive audit of the books related to construction work going on the Gandhi Setu and have found huge irregularities in accounting and bookkeeping. This report has also been validated by none other than the Auditor General. We are asking Nitish Kumar to open a full investigation into the case and take appropriate actions against the corrupt officers. We also demand the resignation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Bihar Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav," the Congress leader said.

Mishra said that the Congress had raised this issue in the 191st session of the Bihar Legislative Council but the Nitish government ignored it to protect its ministers.

"We have unearthed large scale corruption in the bridge building project. The contractors are using inferior quality materials, including steel, that not only is morally wrong but also poses a massive threat to the people who will be using the bridge on a regular basis," he said.

The Congress legislator further said that the engineers who blew the whistle on the systemic corruption in the Gandhi Setu project were quietly removed from their position and posted in obscure places.
