Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday announced Rs. 1000 in each ration card holders' account in one of many measures taken by him to combat coronavirus and the toll its taking on the people of Bihar.

Earlier the government had announced the exact move for urban cities only but it was expanded to all people holding ration cards irrespective of their place of domicile across the state.

With the country on a 21-day lockdown as mandated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an attempt to flatten the curve of the fast-spreading virus, the government changed its earlier policy from only urban areas to every ration card holder that is estimated to affect more than 1.6 crore people of Bihar, officials said.

The government also announced a monetary compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to the family of those dying directly as a result of coronavirus while also offering 'skill-development' training to the members of the family.
