Gurgaon: Aman Raj, currently number one on the IGU order of merit among junior boys, got the 2nd place in Toyota IGU Northern India Junior Golf Championship (Category A below 18) that concluded today at the Golden Green Golf Resort in Gurgaon.
Displaying marvelous concentration and patience in a field dominated by promising young golfers from across the nation, Aman shot 295 (74, 73, 74, 74) or 7 over par, to capture the second place with three strokes behind winner Viraj Madappa.
The young golfer from Patna and a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Boring Road, Aman led the charge in the first round with two birdies on 1st and 8th holes and a spectacular eagle on the 9th to grab the first place on the leaderboard.
On the second day, Aman played 1 over par (73) to slip to the second place that he held firmly till the conclusion of the tournament. Despite a 2 over par in the fourth and final round on Friday, Aman wowed the field with five breathtaking birdies on the 1st, 3rd, 12th, 14th, and 16th holes.
The 17-year old kid just back from the World Championship held earlier in August in Japan where he finished 4th among players from all over the world, also won the USHA Karnataka Open Junior tournament held at Clover Green Golf Club in Bangalore. Also playing once again at the KGA in Bangalore earlier this year, he grabbed the third place in the Toyota IGU Southern India Junior Golf Championship.
With already a number of feathers in his cap, the young phenom is now looking forward to represent his nation at South Korea for Asian Junior Golf Team Championship that opens on 16th and concludes on 18th later this month.
