Patna: An angry mob in Patna on Tuesday torched a private bus after it struck bicycle rider near Mithapur bus stand under Jakkanpur police station.

According to the reports, a bus owned by Hawa Hawai Transport Company was coming from Nawada when it hit a bicyclist near Mithapur Bus Stand. The bus then dragged the man several feet before coming to a stop.

The injured man, who was identified as 35-year old Ram Kumar of Bihta was rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where he was listed in serious condition.

In the meantime, an angry mob, after ordering all the passengers out of the bus, set the vehicle on fire. By the time a fire truck arrived, only that remained of the bus was its skeleton structure.

Authorities, after much effort, were able to disperse the crowd and remove the blockade.

The driver of the bus Santosh Kumar was taken into police custody.
