Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the Rs. 490 crore international convention center that is to be built at the northern end of the historical Gandhi Maidan in front of the Magadh Mahila College campus.
On the occasion, Kumar also electronically laid the foundation stones of 23 stadiums across Bihar, and art and culture center in Purnia, among other projects.
Expected to start functioning by the end of 2015, the earthquake-resistant convention center will have a seating capacity of 5,000 people utilizing 16,500 tons of steel. Spread in over 11 acres, the convention center will also have an underground parking capable of parking 450 vehicles, a banquet hall, and meeting halls to accommodate several events at the same time.
It may be recalled that the students of Magadh Mahila College earlier went on a rampage opposing the move to build the convention center right in front of the college campus. In the end, Kumar compromised by ordering a modification in the plan that would not affect the college building or its overall appearance.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
