It's very cushy to take goody-goody path for celebrities to address about social evils but the reality inside is excavated. Recent order of the Supreme Court to Amitabh Bachchan to pay Rs. 1.66 crores which he owes to IT Department for KBC unearths the reality.
Huge followers of celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan don't expect this. What seems most bizzare is High Court order's exemption on the earnings from local TV show KBC. Section 80 RR of the Income-Tax Act clearly states that exemption is only applicable to earnings outside the country.
Another important point to be noted is that whether it was a deliberate move to evade tax or ignorance of IT act? A great saying is "charity starts at home" which needs to be set by the celebrities. It doesn'tsend a benign message to the people of greatest democracy. Amitabh Bachchan should have voluntarily taken steps to prevent the matter going to the highest court of law.
I would quote Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi... "Be the change you want to see the world."
