Take yourself back into the 6th Century and imagine the greatest of the Byzantine Emperors, Justinian I (482-565) building an imposing church, Hagia Sophia (meaning “Holy Wisdom” in Greek), in Constantinople, the heart of Orthodox Christianity. Completed in 537, the majesty and grandeur of Hagia Sophia was comparable to the Jewish temple in Jerusalem or to St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Crisis of Covid-19 has, if not entirely, but partially changed our living habits more especially habits relating to food consumption. Since moving out from homes is almost controlled due to lockdowns and curfews, you may not take the risk of going out to a restaurant to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner now. You have to remain contained with what is cooked and served to you at home. Ordering food from outside, too, involves high risk and is not advisable.

What started as a local outbreak of pneumonia-like fever early this year in Wuhan, China, culminating into international pandemic (unstopped so far), the Black Lives Matter protest estimated to be the biggest in the US history, the Indo-Chinese skirmish in the Himalayas and the pro-democratic freedom movement in Hong Kong are some of the events that will be seared into the memory of generations to come.

In a pre-planned attack by the Chinese army on Indian soldiers with nail-studded sticks and iron rods (as per media reports) recently, is a cowardly act and should be strongly denounced. India's twenty brave soldiers sacrificed their lives in Galvan valley face-off for the honor of their motherland. There have been more casualties on the other side, as well.

I was a ten-year-old, but the memories of the '62 debacle are eidetically etched in my mind; that feeling of helplessness of the elders, their sense of shame, the silent imprecations, the muted curses in private but dignified poise in public, were a temporal marker in the growth of my consciousness as an Indian.
