Patna: Sita Sahu, the newly-elected Mayor of Patna, and her Deputy Vinay Kumar Pappu, assumed charge on Tuesday in the presence of new Ward Councilors of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) the elections of which were held last week.
Thanking her supporters for standing behind her during the campaign phase of the election, Sahu, the first female mayor of Patna, said that she would work for every individual in the state capital including those who did not vote for her.
"I have been elected the Mayor of Patna and it is my duty to serve everyone including those who voted for other candidates," she said adding she would form a committee within a week to chalk out plans to clean Patna that, she said, appears on the top of her agendas.
Directing the PMC officials to gear up and tighten their belts to rid the state capital from water-logging, Sahu asked the PMC engineers to finish incomplete drainage repair works in their wards before the monsoon wreaks havoc on Patna streets.
The mayor also emphasized the need for clean drinking water in the city saying the water lines in many areas were over 60 years old and it was time to replace them so no one has to ever worry about thinking twice before drinking tap water in Patna.
Getting rid of illegal encroachment in Patna was also on her top priorities list, Sahu said, adding she would need the help of Patna'ites in reaching her goals and fulfilling her election promises.
Deputy Mayor Vinay Kumar Pappu, in his maiden speech, said that solid waste management and door-to-door garbage removal would be his number one priority to turn Patna into a clean city.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
